Flooring Tile - Bathroom Tile

I posted in another forum here and was directed here.

I am installing a bathroom in my basement. The concrete will require an isolation membrane. Now a few Q's:

1) I know of Ditra. The amount I need will cost about $80. Is this good stuff?

2) What are my other option for isolation vs cost?

3) How thick are these membranes? Do they also get placed under the one piece tub/shower unit?

Here is the important part of your first post in basements.
Anyway, my question conerns putting cermamic tile in the basement bathroom. Can they be placed directly on the concete floor? I also have an edge/joint where old concrete meets new concrete in the bathroom, the builder messed up the original rough in and I had pull out his rough in and leave the area where I wanted the bath open until I put in the proper rough in. Meaning that area was poured after the original basement.

What to do about puttig tiles over cracks/joints? I don't want them o crack down the road.


1) Ditra is great stuff. I guess you got my private messsage?
2) There are trowel on membranes, but they are more reactive to hydrostatic pressure. Other sheet style membranes would come in at about the same price.

My concern was the membrane was going to raise the floor too much. I can habdle 1/8".

Time to buy and install the one piece.
