Hi Jay, and everyone.

Well, got my kids new Trane 80, var speed blower, 2 stage installed.
Went pretty well, I think.
Will be hard to fully evaluate until this fall, as the temp here outside of Boston is the 90's, and supposed to stay that way for quite a while.
Have a Vision Pro stat with it.

Let me say much thanks to everyone for all the help, and all the answers to my questions. It sure has helped a lot in knowing what questions to ask, what to look for, etc.
So, a big thanks again.

One or two minor questions:

The filter that came with the unit had a size on the box of 16 x 24 x 1
All Home depot's ones ( want to get the real good 3M pleated ones) are
marked 25 inches. Will they fit ? If not, do they actually make a 24 incher ?
Actually, I saw no 24 inche ones from any mfg. there.
Do you folks agree that the 3M pleated (3 month) is the "best"one to
go with ?

No registration cards with manuals that came with unit.
Is the installer supposed to fill out one, and actually register the unit with Trane for the warranty ?

Thanks again,
Bob

Did they keep the filter inside the blower area (Black washable ones) or in the return duct work itself?? I've never heard of the 24" ones..

I would of done the media if you want good filter.. The 1" filters just makes the blower work harder to move air over the filter.. If you do get the filter, Look at the 3 packs filter.. They are about $9.. The Red package 3M are good, but like I said before, it fills up pretty fast, and can be harder on the blower... But if you do use it. BE sure to chang them out every 30 days if you run the fan.

Hi Jay and twelvepolel:

Thanks for Trane warranty link.

It's really a 24" filter that came with the furnace (1").
It slips into a channel that is inside the furnace case, right by the
sheetmetal side that the return duct is attached to.

My son has pretty bad allergy, so maybe I'll spring for a case of the "best"
ones that 3M has. Apparently they offer two levels up in grade/quality from the "red" ones. They are called Ultra allergen, and are a few bucks more per filter than their red brand. Take a look at:

http://www.3m.com/us/home_leisure/filtrete/541_comparison.jhtml

interesting info.

I looked at their site, which I should have done before annoying you with the size question, and see that they do offer 24" size, but not apparently in all their grade levels (about 5 different grades, apparently).

Their "purple" branded Utra-Allergen ones apparently filter down to a considerably smaller size, yet from their site info. has a lower pressure drop rating than the red ones. They are all pleated, but I guess the these purple ones have more material in them resulting in the lower p drop rating. They sound pretty good, and are supposed to last about 3 months under normal usage.

Best regards,
Bob

Yeah, I've seen the purple one says that at work.. Again, Like I've said... "Even though the package says last up to 90 days doen't mean it should stay in the system that long"...

I have allegery, and I think money was well spent on a media filter.. I got the Honeywell F200 filter system.. It'll last a year (6 months if you run your fan 24/7). I am no longer suffering, house is cleaner.

My parents has the XV90 like I do, and I can tell the blower is working a little harder w/ the 1" 3M that dad uses. They are now thinking of calling the dealer back and have them put a media filter in for mom.

Hope you got your A/C on! ;-)

could you post some pix of yoru install.

Oh.. as for warranty, the dealer should take care of it and there nothing you need to worry about.. Did you get the 10/10??
