Hi - In the basement room that I am finishing, there is an existing interior door that was hung and trimmed during the construction.

I removed the existing trim and wood spacers that had been installed and put up my 5/8" sheet of drywall. The problem is that, the door seems to have been set up to accept 1/2" drywall - so I'm going to have a gap between the door frame and the piece of trim that I'll be installing. :wall:

I'm sure that I can just caulk the gap and it will look decent/ok - but I was wondering if there were any alternatives to caulking that might work better?

Thanks for the help.
Josh

Use a small drywall rasp and remove the edge of the drywall, completely around the door. Do not rasp beyond the casing line.

You can use a knife to score and remove the drywall paper by pulling it off in strips. That will make it easier to rasp.

Does this door lead to the garage?

Thanks for the info!

Lugnut - the door leads to a hallway in the basement. I think I'm going to try extending the door jam before I try to level the drywall...
