I know I saw this before on this group but I can't figure out how to search the threads anymore so I need to ask.

My blower motor on my furnace doesn't always kick on. It is a direct drive 1/3 hp 6" motor. Once its running its fine. I can tell the bearings are ok because it spins freely when off. What is the startup mechanism is the capacitor charged to give it an extra amount of start up current? Do I need a new motor or capacitor or something else?

If you think I need something new can you give me instructions on how to order without the actual device in hand so I can leave it intact while ordering (since its is very hot here now).

Thanks

It depends if your model has it or not.. Some model has a run capcaitor.. It's an oval or round metal can near or on the blower housing.

MAKE sure you discharge it before you touch the post! Take a plastic handel screw drive, and use the metal tips to short it out between the post on the capacitor itself. Then remove the wire and take it to place like Grainger or HVAC dealer for a new one.
