I have a Goodman AC that's five years old. I was told it is easy to clean the inseide coils and fan. Looking inside the return, I don't know what I am seeing. Can someone walk me through this or should I just call someone for help?

You are interested in performing some maintenance for one of several very good reasons. For a nominal fee (perhaps $25-$40) a service technician will perform most needed maintenance as well as show you what you want to know and advise you as to how easy or difficult it would be to do what you propose.

Typically, cleaning the fan is a moderately difficult task and cleaning the inside coils is a very difficult task. The fan is wrapped in a housing surrounded by the unit and is only accessible from one end. It consists of many small blades arranged in a drum configuration. Cleanable byt tedious. Also, do not move or remove any balancing clips that are attached.

Cleaning the coil is tough because it is usually completely enclosed and there are no access panels provided to reach it. It's easy to tell where it is located, but difficult to obtain access while retaining the ability to close it back up and re-seal the access area completely. The area where it's located is not large and other sealed areas are on front and back. A tight fit.

You can check and see if the blower wheel is clean or needs to be cleaned .If it needs it we just pull the whole blower out and clean it outside of the furnace or AC . be sure and mark down how all the wires go. so you can put it back. Some blowers have only 2 screws holding it in and some like slide out.On lots of heat pump AC units with the blower out you can see the underside of the AC coil to clean it
