Hello,

I did a research in this forum and did not find specific answer for the following questions. Thanks if you can give me some help answering:

1. The 24V from inside the home to the contactor, is it AC or DC?

2. If 24V is not seen at the two thin wires at the contactor, but the thermostat and inside blower are running (warm air, of course), what are the possible root causes for this 24V not being sent to the contactor?

3. I have a Carrier outside unit. Tried searching for online store that sell contactor but was unsuccessful. Can anyone help? Anyone may know (from the look) what the MFG and Model# is? My contactor picture can be seen via the following link

Thanks again!

#1 AC

#2 check the tstat first if you jump from R to Y will the outside unit run? if so its the tstat if not check wires from tstat to blower unit then to the outdoor unit for 24V. If you have 24V out there can be a reset for high limit are the contactor can be bad.

Thanks for your reply, Ed.

When you say "jump from R to Y", are you suggesting I loosen the tstat off the wall and jump the wires from its behind?

On contactor part:

I went to the supply link and looked up Carrier Contactor-Relay Model 38TH and got back this part

Z12-38TH-89CWW $130.44

Unfortunately they do not have a picture showing the part.

I remember discussions from other threads that prices of a contactor were around $12 to $35. The $130 seems a little bit high. Can you expert out there tell me if I'm being directed to the correct part (and with a fair asking price)? FYI, the picture of the part I'm looking for is in my starter note.

Thanks.

Hsieh
