I just bought a house and it has a single zone HVAC system. The thermostat is located on the first floor.
The basement is freezing, first floor is okay... and upstairs is WARM. I think a thermostat with a remote sensor or remote control panel that can be mounted upstairs would help solve my problem.
I just bought a Honeywell 5-1-1. The problem is I don't want SLEEP to set the tempature downstairs. I want it to be 70 upstairs. The problem is when it's 70 downstairs it's about 77 upstairs.
Does anybody make such a thing? A thermostat with a remote tempature sensor / control panel that I can mount upstairs. It would have to "talk" wireless to the base thermostat located on the first floor..
Pipe dream isn't it... :(

For sure try and close some of the registers on first floor down a little and more closed in the basement. You can also try the blower on 24/7 that helps also.

I've closed all the basement registers and most of the ones of the 1st floor. Still, the downstairs cools down much quicker and the upstairs stays warm.
Does any manufacture make a thermostat with a remote sensor?

They do sell stat with remote sensors but you will overcool the downstairs with it. You will get the same results by just turning the 1st floor stat down lower. Imagine your stat don't have numbers on it and just set it down till you are comfy.

Here's what I was hoping for...
Thermostat (Main) - downstairs
Thermostat (Remote sensor) - upstairs
Settings:
Wake - use upstairs sensor
Leave - use downstairs sensor
Return - use downstairs sensor
Sleep - use upstairs sensor
That with Honeywell's "Smart Response" technology whould be exactly what I need...
Does such a thing exist?
