I recently purchased a 12 year old home with a York central air system. Yesterday, was the first day I felt the need to turn it on. It was about 87 deg and 90 percent humidity. The outside unit came on and the blower in the basement came on, but the system could not keep ahead of the outside temp. I set it at 70 deg but, the inside temp climbed into the 80's. Very little air is blown through the vents even though I've cleaned the Trion electrostatic air cleaner. The air that does come through is cool but not nearly enough to do the job. I also noticed the insulated copper line is very damp and the insulation outside is worn and ice was forming. Any advice? Thanks Jeff.

First get a good filter in the unit here check the AC coil inside is it clean. The blower wheel clean. If all ok then you are low on freon with that ice on the big copper line. Id say call a tech if all is clean and you still have ice there.
Let the inside fan run but turn the outside unit off.

When you say check the ac coil to see if it's clean, are you saying take the cover off the outside unit and check there? If so, what's the best way to clean it? Thanks

You mean you have an Electronic Air Cleaner (EAC)? it's about 5" thick.. Where electrostatic filter is 1" thick.
i would check to make sure your blower is clean, and also the coil.. Most of the time, the coil will be a nighmare to get at. Any return vents blocked?
Otherwise if all above is clear, then time to call the pro.. Maybe low on charge.

He means the indoor coil where the copper lines go into the duct. You need to remove any access panel and clean it off.
