Help!!! I just bought a microfiber couch and didn't have the extra stain protection applied. Is there anything I can use to treat the couch now, or how should I maintain it. I have a 2 year old and another baby on the way as well as 2 cats that shed. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!! :) :)

Microfiber furniture is very easy to maintain in most cases. You can add a protectant to it now. You can clean it using water based cleaners. I would clean it or have it cleaned first then apply the protection. You can contact the place where you bought it or do research online for the specific manufactors reccomendations. Be warned thou. Solvent based cleaners may cause color fastness (loss) if used. Some people say you can use them others do not. So, i personaly would not use a solvent based cleaner or protectant on the fibers. But from alot of people i talk to microfiber is very easy to maintain on a regular basis.

Not all microfiber upholstery is created equal. We have had posts where dye rubs off on clothing. Thus, proceed with caution if DIY cleaning is done. Test first in inconspicuous are for ill effects if using a DIY cleaning method. Top-of-the-line microfiber upholstery is solution dyed, meaning dye is added while fibers are in molten state, and can be cleaned with solvent cleaners for oil/grease stains, and enzyme cleaners for organic stains. Dyes added to fibers after fibers are manufactured contain unstable dyes that are subject to fading and color loss from sunlight, age, heat, cleaning products, etc. Microfiber upholstery is a new kid on the block and it seems that some manufacturers have jumped on the band wagon. There is a lot of irresponsible marketing of many products that tend to take advantage of naive consumers. If in doubt about the cleaning of your upholstery, contact a professional cleaner. If upholstery is still in great shape, you can apply Scotchguard or other stain resister. This does not mean the upholstery will be stainproof.

Keep feeding of kids and cats off the couch. As you know, with kids and cats, the world tends not to be predictable. For organic stains such as spit ups of babies or pet messes, you will need to keep enzyme digester cleaner on hand. These are sold as pet mess cleaners at pet stores. They are marketed under a variety of names at home centers and hardwares--Out, OdoBan, Nature's Miracle, etc. Read and follow product label directions.

For cat hair issues, groom daily. And, use wet hand or glove to collect pet hair. Brush or upholstery attachment on vaccuum is recommended. This should be done weekly when you run vacuum.
