Can anyone offer advice on how to protect the bricks? Some are chipping and crumbling, others are falling out. The brick work is about 15 yrs old. Thanks.

That is kind of how brick is especially on walkways. Not really anyway to protect it. Most of the rotting brick is from water getting inside the brick. About all you can do is to have the broked and damaged brick replaced with new. It will not match exactly. Just got done doing such a job last Friday.
Good Luck Sorry I don't have better news for you.

this is the problem I have also.the face of some of the brick on my steps just seems to pop off.is this due to water also.this house was built in 1980 or 81 and the brick on exterior of house are fine except the chimmney and the faces of some of those brick are also coming off also.
