Hi all. Texas summer just kicked in and we find that the A/C isn't really cooling our master bedroom. It's a large open room (bed/bath combo, all open) with vaulted ceilings, skylight, etc. There are 2 vents and cold air is blowing, but not too effectively. There is a distinct temp. difference between the bedroom and kitchen next door (+-5 degrees). I was wondering if it would help to put in one of those window exhaust fans in the bedroom to blow out the warmer air and suck the cooler air from the rest of the house. Any ideas on that? Know of a specific type/brand? I've seen single and dual units but don't know if either would be more functional than the other. Also bearing in mind that noise level of the fan is a factor since it's the bedroom and we'd be using it while sleeping.

Thanks in advance,
Ben..

Ben,

Is the air flow weak? if the air flow is weak, I'd look and see if you have flex. some times they get kinked and won't allow the full air flow blow out.

Have a return in the bedroom, or a cut out on the door to allow the air to get out of the room when the door is shut?

I won't advise w/ the window fan.. if you did that, that air that is blown outside has to be made up some how..

Dont Put a vent fan in the window for sure If you did and it vents out just a 400 cfm fan there would pull a ton of your AC out of the home that you paid for. Have you closed down the kitchen vent some try that.

I didn't really think it was weak, but it could be. I'll have to check around in the attic for a kink.

The door is never shut so that won't really help. It's just wierd how much warmer the 1 room is even with the door open.

Thanks for the advice

I closed the 2 vents in the kitchen and I think it made a little improvement in the bedroom, but not much. It must just be crappy insulation. It's a rental too, so I'm not counting on it improving.

Thanks for the help, all.

Try running the fan 24/7 for a while.
