I had a contractor troubleshoot my split central a/c unit, because it was not cooling the house and the return line was freezing up. He said that the freon was low and there may possibly be a leak. He recharged the freon, which remedied it, but now there is a persistent rumbling noise from the outside a/c unit that last for about 5 secs. and then reoccurs every half a minute or so. Any ideas on what may be causing this? Does overcharging the system cause this to happen?

yes, over charging may cause this.. "flood back"... Did they find the leak, and repaired it??

Jay11J- thanks for the reply. No, he did not attempt to find the leak- said to keep an eye to see if the line freezes up again. What is the remedy for "flood back"?

if the system is over chaged, then the charge will have to be removed by the dealer..
