I was told by wife that there was a surging sound, like a car about ready to stall, for 4-5 seconds. It created a power drag and the lights dimmed. The sound quit and the inside fan kept running but the cooling stopped.

I found a 30 amp fuse blown. Everything looks good on the outdide unit. The contacted engages when called. The compressor fan spins freely by hand.

With AC off the power comming in reads 117. When turned on the reading is 4.4. I dont know what that means.

What next gurus? :coffee:

Thanks Jay!

With the unit off, I get 118 on the red and 1.54 on the black. What does the 1.54 mean?

I checked the continuity on the contact and only 18.

Sounds like you have a lost power on the black.. Trace back to the disconnect switch next to the unit see if blown fuse.. If still not getting 118 there, then trace back in to the main fuse/breaker box. Reset/replace if reading not 118 to ground.

That was it Jay!! :D

I quess it DID blow the fuse again. I kept focusing on the buss fuses. The screw in fuse didnt look like it was blown but after replacing it again..Bingo!!

You sure pulled me out of a "HOT" jam! Thank you Jay!

Glad to hear you got it going again.. Make sure you used the "Time Delay" fuse.
