The front of my house is 1/2 vinyl siding and 1/2 brick. There is a rock ledge at the interface between the two materials. We haven't lived there too long, but recently, I noticed that part of the rock ledge is actually a piece of board, rotten board. The board is about 1"X1"X3" (wXhXl). I've removed it and I plan on replacing it with a piece of stone. I've also noticed a hairline crack in the brick wall running almost the entire height of the wall, from where the piece of wood was to the ground. Is this likely to become a problem and if so, how big?

Is the crack in the mortar or in the brick?

Sorry for getting back so slow. There are a couple of hairline cracks in the bricks. They're not as long as I thought they were at first, but they go through a couple of bricks.

I presume the foundation wall in the same area is crack free?

Yep. I haven't seen any cracks in the foundation.
