Hiya!
I have bought a flat with 3 other people. While away for the weekend, two of the owners installed a shower over the bath, but the wall is only tiled half way up, and there is a wooden window that now gets splashed from the running shower. The tiles are in a sorry state with cracked grout all over, so I had thought we would totally retile and install a screen infront of the window before installing the shower. The walls have been repainted with bathroom paint, and the people responsible for the shower installation have said that that will be enough to keep the damp out of the walls. I am not so confident. Could I please have some advise?
Thanks,
Denebiebe

What's the screen going to do, if you are asking how to tile a shower surround that has a window, no problem, what is there now, just painted walls, don't quite understand, sounds like a mess to me.:)

Either those people have gotten really bad advice from somebody or they are just trying to blow you off with a dumb answer. The walls needs tio be tiled all the way up above the height of the shower head. For the window I would look into a vinyl repacement one and instead of a wood sill use a marble sill cut to length and width to fit.

at this rate you'll be taking a lot fewer weekend trips. :wall:
I assume by your description that your friends connected something to the tub spout to add a shower to a tub-only bath? In that case the tiles were never intended to withstand the environment of a shower and you are asking for big-time trouble. and that's besides what it will do to the window.
I'm afraid this is a lot more than just a simple "re-tile" if you are going to use this for a shower. But the first thing you'd better do is have a serious pow-wow with your new roomies and set up some ground rules for taking on "home improvement." you are right to be concerned; too bad the others don't share your common sense. :)
