I was on a cruise and melted butter dripped on my cocktail dress. What can I do to remove the stain or is it too late?

Blot stain from outside toward middle to prevent spreading with white rag or paper towel and solvent cleaner (rubbing alcohol, denatured alcohol, or dry cleaning fluid). If in doubt, take dress to dry cleaner.
