Hi,
We are getting ready to tile our 4 x 9 bathroom floor. A book mentioned joists under the floor. We do not have any joist under the floor due to all the piping under it. Can we still put tile down and not have it warp down the line? We have a stainless steel bathtub in it and a marble counter top. No contractor has mentioned the lack of joists to us.

Joists should be spaced a maximum of 16" on center. Pipes run between the joists. Sometimes they are run through the joists. The only way to know what is under the floor is to remove the floor and take a look. You should have wood subfloor. You will want to install concrete underlayment board before installing tile.
