How do I shut off thr pilot lite for my gas furnace? Do I just move the shut off valve to the off position? Thanx.

yes, just turn the knob from "ON' past "Pilot" to "Off".
may not hurt to replace the thermocouple in the fall when you light it up again for heating.

I try to discourage people from shutting off the pilot. I realize it does burn some gas but leaving it on keeps a little bit of heat in the furnace & dramaticly reduces rust from condensation. I can't tell you how many service calls I get each fall from folks, trying to save money, who have turned the pilot off. Often spiders will get into the pilot assembly, build a nest & block the gas flow. Long before I got into this trade, I learned that lesson the hard way.
