Hello:

Will be having a new Trane Gas hot air furnace installed next week.
Have specified a Honeywell Vision Pro for it.
It will also be controlling a split system air conditioner for the house.

Not very important, but was wondering about the reminder message that the stat can apparently give you as to when to change the filter. It says ...

Installer Setup Number: 0500
Installer Setup Name: Furnace Filter Change Reminder

0 - Furnace Filter change reminder is Off
1 - Approximately 1 month -- based on 10 days of fan run time.
2 - Approximately 3 months -- based on 30 days of fan run time.
3 - Approximately 6 months -- based on 60 days of fan run time.

For the liufee of me, i can't understand how they are computing for when the reminder should be turned on.
e.g., what does 10 days of fan run time mean: is it simply just when 240 hours are reached (including for furnace and A/C running) ?

Frankly, i don't think that this above explanation is correct.

Anyone have any thoughts as to how this is determioned ?

Thanks,
Bob

You should contact Honeywel for the absolute answer; but I would take 10 days of fan run time to mean 240 hours. For each setting, this would be an average of 8 hours per day, which is a nice "average" number. They are then giving you the option of changing in one month, three months, or six months.

The variables are (1) if a house is relatively MORE or LESS dusty than the "average" this would affect the proper change interval; and (2) depending on your climate and house construction, your fan may run MORE or LESS than 8 hours per day.

In summary, I believe that the thermostat is in no way checking how "dirty" your filter actually is. It is simply acting as a timer which YOU set at 1 month, 3 months, or 6 months.

Check with Honeywell to see if the thermostat is actually measring fan run time. If it does this, then variable # 2 mentioned above is accounted for.

I have this, and I have it set for 6 months.. I have the media filter, so that's why so long.. They go by fan "run" time.. So on call of heat or cooling, and fan switched to "ON" it figured the run time.

I love this t-stat, and make sure it's all set right. (type of heating, Cycle per hour.. ect.. )

Are you doing the 2-stage variable speed? make sure the stages are wired to the t-stat, and also, if they run 7 wire, hook up the common, and turn on the back light.. It's a great night light in the hall way.

Hi,

Installation will be this Thursday.

Sure do want the "night lite" on.

Are you sure you need 7 wires for ?

The HVAC installer told me a while back that he needs only 6 wires
for everything, including the 2 stages.

Should I get back to him re the 7 wires ?

Thanks for all the help,
Bob

I've not heard of the 6 wires t-stat wire.. Just 2, 4, 7 wires. Unless it in your area.

W1
W2
R
C (You'll need this to the back light)
Y
G

Y2 (if you have two stage cooling)

Hi Jay:

Thanks for help.

What I will be getting is the Trane 80 series Furnace.
2 Stage heating
Var. Speed Blower.

Also, we already have a very typical split system air conditioner (condenser outside, evap. section using the furnace blower inside) installed in the house from a long timne ago. Want the Vision Pro to control this also.
Guess this is single stage A/C, but, frankly, not even sure what a 2 stage A/C system would be ? (what is it ?)

Definitely like the night lite idea of yours.

If the A/C is single stage, this would bring the wire count to 6, I think.

Am I correct, therefore, that this would be 6 wires required, as Y2 would therefore not be needed ?

Trying, very hard, to avoid problems during the installation.

BTW: I looked at a download installation manual for the thermostat. They do a fairly good job showing the wiring, but what they don't have, surprisingly, is a description of what the single lettered terminals actually are (or do). I guess they assume that every HVAC contractor knows.
I'm wondering-might you define these for me, please:

Rc
R
W
Y
G
C
Y2
W2

Also, when is Rc and R to be jumpered ?

Can't find the system setup code for turning on the screen illumination.
Happen to know what it is ?

Can't imagine how you keep your sanity with this stuff.

Best regards,
Bob

not even sure what a 2 stage A/C system would be ? (what is it ?)

It has two compressors, and on mild days the smaller compressor will run, and on hot days, the next compressor will run..

Some unit has a variable speed motor in it.

Yes, on a single stage, would use 6 wires. and one would be left un hooked, and the Y2 will not be used.

Rc Cooling of the A/C has it's own transformer.
R Power from the furnace
W Power to the furnace for call of heat.
Y Power to the furnace/outdoor unit for call of A/C
G Power to the furnace to run the blower when it switched to "ON" and cool
C Common side to the transformer on the furnace.
Y2 Power to the furnace/outdoor unit on call of cool 2nd stage.
W2 Power to the furnace for call of 2nd stage heat.

Jumper for R to Rc used if outdoor unit don't have it's own transformer.

The backlight setting is #0289, then 1.. You must have common hooked up to the furnace.... Note, if you remove the t-stat from the sub-base, the light will only light up as you tap the pad. when return to the sub base.. tap the pad again, light will light up ans stay on.

I don't mindt this one bit.. I am happy to help people! :-) And I've been dealing with people in the public since I been 16.

Hello Jay:

Just would like to say a quick thanks for all the help you've
given me, and particularly in obviously taking so much time in
answering all my questions, dumb and otherwise, in such detail.

Really appreciate it very much.

Best regards,

Bob
