Our gas heater gives of a real "sweet" smell the first time it's turned on. It burns off in about 5 minutes and won't do it again until the unit has been shut off for a day or so. I've had the vents cleaned and the unit inspected, but two seperate companies can find nothing wrong. It doesn't do it when the a/c comes on, just the heater.

How old is it? If's an older system. then it's normal to get this smell from over time.. There is no way to stop it.. Other than get a new furnace.
