Help! We used to have a waterbed and when we removed it, there was a red color where the wood frame and braces were on a cocoa brown colored carpet. Any ideas on how to remove it and fast?

What has happened is due to moisture the stain from the wood has actually bled into the carpet. For a very long time, most people thought that this is a dye stain and permanent. Recently due to alot of practice and research. I have found this is not the case. Furniture stains are actually considered organic spots, due to the makeup of most stains. But unlike other organic based spots a protein spotter will not remove them. There are products out there made for professional carpet cleaners that will remove them. So, you could always contact a cleaner and ask. Another way of removing them, but should not be used without practice is a heat transfer method. The CRI does not really like the idea of apply a steam iron to the carpet to transfer the heat. But it has been found to remove spots/stains with practice and care.

A mixture of ammonia and regular rubbing alcohol. Mixed at a 1:1 ratio will work. Basicly if u mix it up in a 32 oz bottle. 16 ozs of both agent go into the mix. Spay liberaly onto spot and allow to dwell 10 mins. With a thin white terry cloth rag that is soaked, but somewhat rung out. Lay the rag over the spot after the 10 mins. With a steam iron on the lowest steam setting place the iron over the rag for 10 seconds at a time. Checking the carpet each time and rag for transfer. Each time move the rag to a more wet area and reapply the iron. Note: Leaving the iron on too long, will cause damage. Not rotating the rag=same thing. If at any time the carpet starts becoming light. Stop

Again, my MAIN suggestion would be to contact a professional cleaner. Or do a search engine search for furniture stain remover. My heat transfer suggestion is if you feel comfortable enough to do it on your own. Remember it takes practice. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I have had luck using denatured alcohol to blot the wood stains from carpet. Blot from outside stain toward middle to prevent spreading. As indicated, rubbing alcohol or a mixture of rubbing alcohol and ammonia is often effective. Remember, any DIY method should be tested first in inconspicuous area for ill effects. Some dyes are unstable and can be affected by using solvents and other cleaners. I personally do not recommend the use of heat for removal of candle wax or other stains, because heat tends to set dye stains. If in doubt, contact a professional carpet cleaner.
