I'm about to begin building a raised redwood deck off my master bedroom (2-story home), and I'd like to use 2x6 tongue and groove for the deck spans to serve as somewhat of a cover for the patio below. Is this a good idea, or will I run into problems down the road? Thanks for the feedback.

Not the right way to go about it.

T&G redwood won't give you a water tight seal -- you'll have drips. And you'll be replacing the redwood in 15 to 20 years, PROVIDING that you do annual maintenance on it.

Better way would be to use a composite or vinyl for the decking and a system like Underdeck or Dry Below to keep the area underneath dry.
