I have a 10'x15' slab out back and am wanting to build a roof for it to keep all the sun from coming inside. I would like to do wood but hear that aluminum will last longer, what about canvas??? Could I build a metal fram then stretch a huge piece of canvas over it? How would it stand against the texas heat????

An aluminum patio cover will outlast the both of us. Sunbrella is good, but you'll be replacing the fabric in about 15 years. Wood MAY last 10 years.

Those are your choices. How often do you want to do this??

The only thing about the aluminum is the noise it makes when it rains will probably get on my nerves as this patio will be just on the other side of my living room...is there a "special" kind that doesn't make that pining noise when it rains?
