Hello,

I wish to extend our existing concrete patio slab by adding on a paver patio. I've read up on the project about excavating down - putting a layer of crushed rock down followed by packed sand.

Since I live in Florida and beneath about 2-3 inches of topsoil, I already have sand and rock, would I be wasting my time redoing what nature has already done? Is it possible I could just skip these steps, excavate the topsoil out and lay pavers right on top of the sand base? (I'd probably have to add a little sand to bring it up to the level of the existing slab)

Many thanks in advance! (and happy Memorial Day!)
Steve
