I was given a chest of drawers that was manufactured in the late 1970's. It's all wood construction, but the top of it is an unappealing laminated formica-like material that I would dearly love to remove and replace with a different pattern and style of formica. The body and drawers of the piece also need refinishing, so I assume that I should strip it and then do the top. Any suggestions anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There's a very good book in the library/bookstore by a man named Kendall.
Its in the DIY section under kitchens and/or cabinets. The title is something like "Making Laminate Countertops".
It descibes how to make a laminate top.
