Hey Folks,
I need a little help with my RUUD electric water heater serial #R4 0189B33523.
When showering the water was going from hot to warm. Now it is going from warm to cold. I fear it will go eventually cold. I have only the hot water on when I shower and it is at best luke warm. I checked the thermostat with a meter and it appears to be fine. I guess my question is what could be the problem. I read some of the links with the responses (very helpful) and I want to know if it is the dip tube that some you may be referring? I am not very knowledgeable abt this so any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for you help in advance.

Is it warm instantly when you turn on the hot water, or does it start hot and quickly go to warm? It could be one of the elements that is bad. You can check the dip-tube by turning off the electric and the water supply. Disconnect the cold water piping going into the tank and remove all the cold water supply piping to the tank. The dip-tube "sits" in the opening to the tank right under the pipe that goes to the tank. You should be able to stick your finger into it and lift it out. If it is damaged or there is none (they sometimes fall into the tank) you can buy replacement tubes. Good luck.
