View Full Version : LACK OF RESPONSE

In looking through the different questions in the forums I've noticed that many of the questions are left unanswered or have gotten no response at all. It is such a great idea to share ideas--I wonder why the lack of response?

Its usually because no one has a good answer. Sometimes, as in this category, the questions are better off in a different category. I think of woodworking projects pertaining to things like making wood furniture.

The true experts on these forums also have to work. The respond in their spare time. This time of year can be very busy for them.
They will pick and choose categories (as well as other forums that interest them, not just this DIY one).

This is true, I am guilty of picking and choosing. Right now I am so busy with work that I have limited time on the PC(not to mention the kids wanting online as well!)

To your below unanswered post, probably the best place to find plans for a roof over your porch would be at your local hardware store in the books section, look in decks and porches, awnings and roofing, etc. You will get a better idea of what will suit your needs not to mention detailed plans. Hope this helps :)

Tori:

As a forum moderator (Furniture Refinishing) I feel an obligation to respond to every post in the forum unless someone else has already given an appropriate response. There have been a few times, however, when that response was an apologetic "I don't know".

Being semi-retired, I probably have more time available to monitor 'my' forum (as well as emails from individuals) than many of the moderators, but it still can take as much as a couple of hours on any given day.

I have corresponded with several of the moderators on other forums and have found them to be quite knowledgable and more than willing to help - but nobody knows it all.

Audience participation is ALWAYS welcome (even if I don't always agree)..

I saw your question but didn't answer because of the complexity. There's a lot of different patio covers, metal, fiberglass, wood. My particular favorite is wood. For an excellent idea how to build a patio cover, visit San Louis Obispo CA web site. They have an overall view, construction details, rafter and beam span tables, etc. This is one of the best city web sites I've seen. If you don't live in california, construction should be the same. Check with your local building department. Things like footer depth will change, lumber span tables should not. They will be able to answer a lot of your questions and probably have handouts on the subject. Here's the website: http://www.slonet.org/vv/ipcoplng/typicalpatio.html By the way, in california, I believe all patio covers on mobile homes must be freestanding.
