What is a good technique to rip a 4x4 cedar fence post in half lengthwise but diagonally? My table saw will only cut 2.25" at 45 degrees and this cut is about 4.75" at 45 degrees.

Cut as far as you can with your table saw from each corner... your cuts should come within 1/2" of each other... then finish cutting that 1/2" with a reciprocating saw, or if you dont have one, a hand saw would work.

It would be worthwhile to create a cradle for the 4x4 so that the diagonal dimension remains vertical. This could be as simple as some triangular blocks of wood or as complex as two sets of rollers at 45 degrees each side of vertical.
Bandsaw is the best answer, but saws with circular cutting blades could work as well.
