I am planning to buy an electric dryer, so I have to disconnect the old one which is the gas dryer.

Hello: Enick

Turn off the gas valve on the supply pipe. Should be an iron pipe or galvanized gas pipe with a shut off valve on the end. If the gas line between the dryer and that shut off is flex, unscrew the end on the shut off valve. Do not allow the shut off valve to turn or rotate. Only unscrew the female cap nut of the flex. Job done. If you like, there are caps which screw onto the male end of the shut off valve. Available at local hardware stores.

Hope this helps. Generic and basic information based on the lack of specific information you provided. Gas Dryer Help Link: here: (http://forum.doityourself.com/showthread.php?t=159481)
