Polybau (vinyl) and Andersen (Fiborex, mixed vinyl and wood).

I want to change the windows in my house and has seen different companies for quotes.
Pricing is from 6000 to 23000 dollars.
The most expensive being Andersen windows. According to Andersen, vinyl windows are not good (Andrsen sells fiborex).

Now I am kind of confused. I saw some vinyl windows made by Polybau (in a showroom). They look really nice to me. I heard it is the high end brand in the vinyl world.

My problem with Polybau is the price difference when it comes to quotes. Same product, but the quote ranges from 6500 to 13000 dollars.
Is there something wrong with that? we are talking about the same windows.

Just need some feedbacks.
What do you think?
Many thanks

Polybau is one of probably 1000 vinyl window manufacturers in the US. Vinyl windows are literally a dime a dozen. Finding a decent one is difficult because they all say they are "top of the line." Sad to say, they all can't be in the top 10%.

looking at their web site, (which is poorly designed for someone who is seeking specific information, I might add) they look like pretty much any other vinyl window out there. The various quotes you got were likely the same window with various options, or various installation options, I assume? If so, the difference in price is not surprising.

Anderson's claim that vinyl is bad is a load of horse hockey. If its so bad, why is there vinyl in their "Fiborex"? One "could" say that the wood in their Fiborex is bad, because what will happen if it absorbs water and swells??? But is it true? Or is it just a scare technique?

Vinyl is a great product for windows provided the manufacturers do not exceed vinyl's limitations, which most of them understand. Vinyl is basically maintenance free, and good quality vinyl will have a long life.

As a rule of thumb, expect to pay between $500 and $1000 installed, per opening, depending on the options. If it's less than that, it's probably junk. If it's more than that, its probably overpriced. If it's somewhere in-between, the only way to tell if it's "overpriced junk" is to compare, compare, compare. And don't overlook the reputation and quality of the company that installs it. Get references.

andersen does sell vinyl. where did you hear that? they use fibrex (a composite woodlike material, similar to weatherbest decking) in their basement windows, which is a whole other animal. their 200/400 series windows and patio doors (with the exception of the frenchwood door series) are vinyl.
