I recently purchased a patio deck heater with the following specs:
Propane
Max. wattage: 12000 (41000 btu)
Min. wattage (17000 BTU)
Gas pressure manifold: 280/300 mm H2O
Main opening: 1.9mm
Pilot burner opening: .2 mm
Main question: The heater did not come with a pressure regulator and hose assembly. I have no idea which kind to get (low pressure or high pressure). :wall: The propane tank that I purchased is 20lb. with a type I valve. The gas inlet on the heater has a male flare. The manual gives absolutely no direction as to what regulator to purchase. So, I believe I need a type I regulator of some unknown pressure with a female flare on the hose. Any further assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

you should have a regulator rated for between 6 and 11 water column inches. this allows regulation for lp dependant upon hose length and size as well as appliance specs. most lp gas dealers will have exactly what you are looking for readily available. if your appliance warranty states professional installation, that would entail a manometer reading to ensure exact pressure to appliance. unless you have a 200 lb tank 3 feet away just a waste of money as can be seen in every backyard bbq setup.

Hello howdoo. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
Look at the owners manual. Should be a picture of the assembled parts. Likely to be a built in regulator up near the top just below the burner in the pole. If not, read below.
Advice you have gotten thus far is accurate. The btu rating of the patio heater is no more than that of a BBQ appliance. Thus, any standard regulator for a propane BBQ will do fine.
Appliance propane regulator will be readily available at almost any outdoor patio furnature and appliance dealer, RV dealer or any local appliance parts dealers listed in the phone book.
The regulator will not need any pressure testing nor will the supply bottle. Propane fuel bottles of the 10 to 20 gallon size are all the same pressure wise. Same ones used for RV's, tent trailers, propane camp stoves, camp lights and other table top type propane fuel BBQ's.
Nothing special to be overly concerned about providing you purchase the regulator and all other needed hose line, etc. at any qualified parts dealer or retailer.
Cautionary Reminder:
Note the fuel flow direction arrow on the regulator and install correctly. Turn on the bottle valve and than "Soap Test" for leaks once all the parts are assembled.

Thanks for the reply, guys.
I have studied the picture in the manual up and down and every direction imaginalble. The regulator is illustrated where the tank should be located (at the base of the heater). It just boggles my mind that if they don't supply this piece then to not even describe how to appropriately purchase one.
