If we're building the porch enclosure and setting the stringer right on the cement slab, how do we protect the wood? If we use treated lumber, will this be enough protection from moisture, etc. We may not enclose under the porch deck but use 4x4 posts for support. Can those be set right on the cement or should we cover the bottoms with metal? Thank you.

Don't set the wood directly on the concrete. Regardless of PT or not, it will rot!

Use a Simpson AB, ABE, ABU, or similar post base to provide a seperation between tbe wood and the concrete.
