Coming up on cleaning our deck with the 50/50 water/bleach solution everyone here recommends......will it hurt my perennials and annuals I have under there?? What about if I spray them with fresh water directly afterwards?
Also, has anyone come up with the right pressure to use on a regular wooden deck so as not to dig out too much of the softer wood and make it fuzzy?? THANKS!!

Yes bleach can hurt the plants. I cover them when I can, If I can't, I wet them well before, during and after. If they are wet when the solution hits them the bleach won't be absorbed as fast, continual rinsing minimizes this even more.
I don't know if there is a perfect pressure but common sense should dictate whether or not the presuure is to high or that you are to close to the wood with the tip. Let the bleach solution do most of the work and you don't have to rely on the pressure washer as much.

Why use bleach? Bleach "cleans" wood by blanching the surface, making it appear brighter- if that's what you want, then great. Bleach will also sanitize the deck if you are planning on eating off it. (little joke there...) And bleach will kill any mold growth, but it takes a detergent to remove it.
I'd skip the bleach and use a non-toxic cleaner like simple green or something citrus based.

Thanks for the tips. Anyone else have opinions about WHAT exactly to use to clean this deck? Something that won't hurt my plants! Thanks.......
