Gardening and Horticulture - Concrete wire, tomato cages, opinions/advice

Guys I want to build 6 tomato cages out of 6"x6"x5' concrete reinforcing wire 24" in diameter. I have read the articles on how to do it but wanted to check here to see if there was something I should consider before doing it!
What is your opinions and advice?

Go ahead, it seems to be a fine idea.

It works great and can be used for many years. ON the bottom cut the cross piece out and leave the 6'' wire to stick into ground.You may need a stake or two to hold them when plants get tall.

I realize that the wire makes great cages, but there is another problem. I live in Fredrick Maryland and have been unable to find a 50 foot roll. Fredrick Brick works sells only 150 foot rolls even though the manufactures distribute in 50 and 150 foot rolls.
All suggestions would be appreciated. I just don't want to spend $100.00 for a 150 foot roll when all I need is 50 feet.

Check with some concrete contractors about getting some of the scraps from jobs.

A concrete contractor or precast place would sell you what you wanted. I believe Home Depot sells short rolls.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out Home depot tomorrow. Lumber 84 also carries it, but they were out ($55.00 for 50 feet).

Well i went to Home Depot this morning, they had some beat up rolls in 100 feet for $80.00! Smallest they carry.
I have a couple more places to go Monday, I'll try them. I just hate to spend money for something that will just be wasted in excess.

Well I went back to lumber84 today to see how long to get some in, they told me there must be some confusion, they don't carry it!

I am just going to have to find a new method!

Well I quess this is an update. Now Lowe's does have it in 50 foot rolls for about 45.00.
I bought a roll today.
Question: is there any problem that anyone can see if I connect/complete the circle with "Hog nose rings ) instead of trying to twist stuff together?

Well I felt it was an update for those that wanted to build the cages! I know how frustating it can become!
If you go into the Fredrick maryland store and you need help, I strongly suggest you ask for "Paul" in plumbing. Knows everything about the store and it's inventory.
Contractors should go to "Jim" , he has really got it together. He is the one that told me they had the wire i was looking for, that the help desk said they didn't carry! Great guys, that know there stuff!!

I made 5 cages today, so i thought I would give you another update on the final assembly.
After you have your wire and are ready to start cutting be aware of the following: Regular heavy duty side cutters will not work, flat out truth!!
The wire is 10 gage. I used a 24 inch handled set of cable cutters, overkill, absolutely not, even they wore me completely out!! If you don't have access to this type of tool, you must find one, are don't even consider starting.
End result, they are really nice, hell man you could hang a pumpkin on these cages and they will last a lifetime. Was it worth the effort, yes for personal use, definitely!
Well that ends this scenario on T cages, I learnt by "do and go" method, I sincerely hope it helps any one trying the same.
