1. Live in Minnesota
2. House is 1908 frame construction, poorly insulated
3&4. Burnham gas boiler, approx 15 yrs. old
5. Water temp around 160*
6. Single zone
7. Boiler cycles and operates normally, but the blower (exahust) has always been very loud. It consists of a motor, shaft, attached to a large disc with vanes on it(enclosed in a cylindrical metal case), ducted to chimney.

By virtue of the mass of the disc and the way it seems to work the unit is quite loud-much more so than any other aspect of the boiler. But now it is squelaing too, maybe the motor is starting to fail.. Can I replace the motor or the whole unit? Is there any alternative for a quieter operating system? Some other type of blower that's not so noisy?

Thanks so much for any help!

Thank you for all of the information, far more than we usually get. On most exhaust blowers the motor is replaceable. Before you go buying a motor, make sure the problem is the motor. Sometimes it is the fan hitting the housing. A lot of the motors have small oil ports. It is worth a look & a few drops of oil.
