View Full Version : cabinet refinishing

I have kitchen cabinets that are birch. They are in really great shape. The problem is the hinges are the old English style that mount onto the front of the cabinet door. I would like to replace them with more modern hinges but I cannot find any that mount on the front of the door. I really do not want to paint the cabinets because I like the wood look, but replacing the hinges will leave holes in the front of my cabinet doors. Is there anything I can do to replace the hinges but keep a wood fihish on the cabinets?

I haven't seen the type of hinges you are trying to replace for a long time, so unless you find a specialty hardware source that I am not familiar with, it sounds like you are in a jam.
Have you considered refinishing just the hinges? It's not something I have seen done or heard of, but you might be able to have them brass or chrome plated, or possibly painted by powder-coating or something. Consider yourself a victim of planned obsolescence (sp?)
Re-post if you decide you are going to replace the doors instead. There are some options there, but they get expensive.
