I am trying to make a box to hold my fly fishing flies. I hae seen some on the web. I have tried to router out about a 3" X 5" a area, but have not had luck. It keeps jumping and kicking. Does anyone have a jig or idea that would help? Thanks for any help!

A couple suggestions to your predicament.
Are you using a plunge router so that you can easily mill out the 3x5 area about 3/32" at a time? Taking shallow cuts will make the process smoother and safer.
Are you milling out the area and THEN cutting the box to size? The larger the piece you are working with, the less it will jump around.

I can vision using top-bearing template bits with different cutting lengths. Make a template out of 1/4" masonite that is the size of the hole you want to end up with. Take a couple passes with a top-bearing bit with about a 1/4" cutting length. then switch to a 1/2" cutting length for a couple passes. Then remove the template, switch back to the short bit, take a couple passes using the hole as the guide for the bit. If you want to go deeper still, switch back the the longer bit, or use one with a cutting length of 1" or so.
Another way would be to take your block of wood and bandsaw off a thin layer for the top and bottom of the box. Then scrollsaw out the space from the remaining block and then glue the bottom back on it and hinge the lid.
Hope this gets you going. If some (or all!) of this is unclear, repost and I will attempt to clarify/ explain further.

PS: How's the fishing?
