I need to find a replacement element for my tankless electric water heater (Titan SCR-2). I know I can probably get one from the manufacturer, but if I can find one closer (I'm in NV, and they're in FL), I can get the thing fixed sooner.

The element is made by Apcom, and is a screw-in type, 208V, 5500Watts, about 8" long (element part), and has a number on it that reads: RC0320552D+ . I've been looking all over the web for it, and cannot seem to find a match.

Thanks for your help,

Bob

I am confused, because you mentioned a TANKLESS water heater, but the element you describe sounds like a conventional electric water heater: screw in, 8", 5500 watts. These are quite generic....you do not have to match the brands or madel, just the watts. They are available anywhere...hardware stores, HD, plumbing stores. I cannot imagine a tankless unit using a 5500 watt element, unless it used about 6 of them.

If it is in fact a tankless heater, parts will be difficult to find locally. Contact the manufacturer for the name of a distributer. But if you are facing cold showers, just spring for FEDEX and get them sent out.

It IS a conventional element, used in an electric, tankless heater. There are two elements, and contrary to your assumption, it heats the water quite well. Check out www.titanheater.com for more info. (Disclaimer: I have no relation to the company, other than being happy with the unit).

The problem is the length/wattage specs. All the common supply stores --Lowes, Home Depot, Ace --carry the wattage, in longer lengths, and the length in lower wattages. I was just hoping someone had run into this before, and could help me source the part.

As it stands, I have found contact info for Apcom, so I have that as an alternative to the manufacturer, if they're unable to expedite the shipping. (Elements are cheap -- I'll probably order two or three, just in case.)

As for cold showers -- we're kind of OK for now. The unit's running on one element instead of two, and the low-flow shower head helps if we don't turn it up too high.

I understand the system now. So, there are a total of 4 5.5KW elements, and at 2 GPM you can get 95º water if the groundwater is 45º. I am glad that this system is satisfactory for you. To me, it points up one of the "cons" of the tankless debate. Many people I know are unhappy with the 2.5 GPM available from most showerheads; less happy with 2.0 and consider 1.5 GPM a return to the stone age. Also, they condsider 95º unacceptable, and shower at closer to 110º. So, it will take a sea change in our attitudes , or a major decrease in water availability ...(a distinct possibility here in So. Calif.!) before they are widely accepted.

I read about many people who have installed tankless and love it, but also about many who have had tankless removed because because it does not fit their needs. In other words, the jury is still out.

One further issue that is not well publicized yet is that tankless may need cleaning and maintenance which folks tend to overlook. Tankless have only begun to be widely sold within the last few years, so time will tell how they stand up.

How old is it? If it's less than a year, it's still under warranty.

You might try a regular plumbing supply place, they may have a better selection of parts.

Bob,

It's a small world. I work for Apcom, as a equipment technician on the night shift in the thermostat department, and occasionally in the element department. We're located in Franklin, TN. The phone number is 615-794-5574. I'm not sure who you would talk to, but if you give them a call, maybe they can tell you of a local distributor. I'll take your infomation to work with me tomorrow night, and see if we still make that heater, or I can find a direct replacement. One question? Is the element a simple U shape, or is it a U shape that is folded back on itself?
