I am rebuilding a 12.5 short block Briggs Engine. How do I align the cam with the crank shaft.
I see on the cam gear a dot & also nearby a thru hole.
On the crank shaft, all I see is a key-way slot.

What do I align with what?

There should be a dot on the crank gear. It lines up with the dot on the cam gear.

There is no dot on the crank gear. Only a key-way slot.

If you have had the crankgear off you may have inadvertantly put it on backwards and now the dot and/or mark is on the back side.

You're right, that's what happened.
