I just happened to be in my basement and noticed a "humming" noise like what you hear from some flourescent lighting. I then noticed it seemed to be coming from my furnace. There is a power disconnect switch on my furnace and the humming goes away when I turn the switch off.

I have a Rheem classic 90 gas forced air furnace. I've had the thermostat set to off for the past week because of the warm weather so it hasnt been running. I cant say I've noticed this humming before but I also cant say for certain that the humming sound hasnt always been like that way.

Any ideas what this could be?

Sounds like it's your low voltage transformer.. There is no harm done from it.. If you feel it bothers you from hearing it, it can be replaced..
