Lefty,

I'm rebuilding deck railing for a friend and would like to get your advice on a couple of things.
What kind of fasters are best for toe nailing in the bottom rails to the posts? I plan on using 2.5 inch finishing nails and a nail gun, 2 per each edge of the 2x4 pressure treated rail, attached flat, butt jointed, against the post. Do you think this method will be strong enough?
I thought about routing out a dadoe in the post for each bottom rail, but think that would take too much time. (The top rail will sit on top of the post, giving it more strength).
Also, I plan on using 3/4 inch copper balusters, set vertically on 4 inch centers. What type of copper pipe do you recommend?

Thanks,

Phyllostachys (aka Ken)
