I just built my deck and the finished height is around 20-21". Code doesn't require railing unless the deck is 30" high. I really like the open look of the deck without any railing but at the same time I'm concerned with safety of small children. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do around the perimeter of the deck?

I need something that is economical, looks good and keeps the open feel, and will provide some sort of protection by either preventing children from falling or by reducing the fall (like steps all the way around).

I tossed around the idea of running steps around the whole deck but that seemed to get pricey. I've also thought about building some benches and setting them around the perimeter.

Any ideas or suggestions and where to go to look at some plans for them?

some lace required to have railling if more than 24 in from ground.
i did mine with some 2x4 and lattice 2x8
i made a frame of 2x4x8' and insered lattice in the middle
like this and used some 1x2 to hold it in the frame

and place 2x4 post between them and place them about 3 1/2 inches from the floor
