I'm new to home improvement so bare with me. I recently moved into a home that has a sunroom with a hot tub. The existin flooring is a very tight indoor/outdoor carpet. The smell of mildew is overwhelming. I want to rip up the carpeting and replace it with something other than carpeting. Any ideas? I was considering vinyl tiles but not sure how they will react to the temperature changes. Below the carpet seems to be the pre-existing patio. Also what type of underlayment, if any should I use?

Pull the tub out and tile the floor.
Indoor/outdoor carpeting will mildew, as you well know. Vinyl tiles won't be much better. Ceramic tile -- now you're talking!!

Will ceramic be affected by the change in temps? I live in Chicago area. 90's in summer 0's in winter

Use a ceramic tile that is designed for your application and you'll be fine. To find one, go to a store that SPECIALIZES in tile -- that rules out the big orange box and the big blue one!
There are literally thousands of tiled patio rooms and exposed patios around here. They all survive just fine. Our temp. extremes run from the low 20's and upper teens in the winter to well over 110 - 115 in the summer.
