Hi
How do you identify on wood, termite damage and water rotted damage?
i know that termites leave pellets but if there are no pellets and you touch the wood 2x4 how do you know, is it softer or harder to the touch.

Termites eat wood from the inside out. You can go for years without seeing the effects of termites. Termites like moist wood. If there is a moisture issue, it is possible to have both decay and termites. Mud tubes leading from the ground to wood is an indication of termite infestation. Termite-damaged wood is usually hollowed out along the grain. Often there are bits of dried mud or soil lining the feeding galleries inside the wood. Wood damaged by moisture or other types of insects will not have this appearance. An inspection by an exterminator is recommended. If there are termites, the longer you wait the more damage can be done.
