I am planning a deck and want to incorporate stairs off the deck that are "L" shaped. The deck will be around 10 feet off the ground and I would like the stairs to come off the deck to a landing, and then turn 90 degrees and go to the ground.
I imagine that the landing will need support, but I am unsure how many piers and posts I will need for the support. It seems like I need 4 piers/posts to support the landing, but I have read that it is possible to support the landing with 2 piers/posts.
Can anyone describe the necessary support configuration for the "L" shaped stairs?

If you lay the footings and posts out for the deck so that 2 of those can be used to support the landing as well as the deck, then you would only need 2 additional footings and posts for the landing. It's all in the planning.

Minimum landing size is 3' X 3'.
