Our house is 4 years old, and we've had this same problem with our air last summer! The unit comes on outside, but every so often the compressor won't and it blows hot air! We turn it off for a while, then it seems okay after a while. It is a pain and a nuscance! What could we do? And what could be the solution? The AC man (IDIOT!) replaced the compressor's start up cap last year. The problem resolved until just 2 weeks ago, so my husband got a new one and replaced it again!

Are you saying that your husband brought a new start cap and it's working now?
When you said "Idiot" on the service tech, why do you mean that?

What was the amp draw on the comressor did they check. Can it be you might need a start kit on the compressor. Can you be low on freon and the compressor over heats and goes off on klixon. You have a lot of ifs ifs here.
