Some citrus based dishwasher detergent caused bad staining on 4 of my silverplate knives and I have tried several cleaning methods to no avail. Can anyone help?

Commercial soaps which contain phosphate can leave a brown stain on silver, thus a mild, phosphate-free detergent is recommended. Hand washing silver is also recommended. Avoid lemon and other citrus liquids as they may contain acids that can stain and permanently damage silver. If a quality silver polish did not remove the stain, then it is likely permanent.

Do not use any dish washing stuff with lemon. Lemon is bad for silverware.
