I had this problem last season, but the unit will sometimes come on after a while. I purchased this home last year (the home is 10 years old) and my home protection plan is about to expire, so I could really use the help.
When turning the unit on at the thermostat, the outside fan will come on, but nothing will come through the inside vents. After an hour or so, it will eventually come on. Sometimes it has no problem at all coming on.
The heating part of the system works fine.
I need to know if I should get a service call for this before my home protection plan expires. There is a $75 deductible for the call whether anything is wrong or not.

Yes, when the thermostat is set to "fan," the fan starts right up.

This heatpump or gas furnace? Check all 24V wires . tstat ok? When unit calls for cool and comes on with no fan inside if you go to fan on then does it come on?
When they work and dont work is hard to run down.
