Just moved into newly built house. The technician who came to connect the dryer cord and hose said we would have constant problems due to the way our dryer vent ducting is routed. It is a 4 inch round metal duct. It goes up inside the wall for about 6 feet, then turns 90 degrees and runs about 10 feet horizonatally to the outside of the house. I have noticed many of the newer homes are venting this way. Is this going to be a problem? The dryer is a Whirlpool, about a year and a half old.

Hello: jmm706

Most likely you will have to clean out the venting system at least yearly. Most, if not all, of the the lint will gather at the base of the dryer near and/or at the discharge outlet behind the machine.

The primary reason is that area is the lowest point. Since the lint is laden with moisture it is heavy. As a result of that and the lack of dryers to have forceful blowers, the lint will not all be forced out the exhausts vent hood. The lint will collect at the lowest point behind the machine.

Buy a dryer vent cleaning brush at any local appliance parts store, etc. You will need it. Use it yearly or as often as required to clear out the accumulated lint. Replace the venting line yearly, if it is flex expandable plastic or any section of it is.
