HELP. my shower drain is leaking. my son went into crawl space to see where the leak is. it is coming from the drain in the stall, needs new caulking. what kind should i use and how do i get the silver grate thing off to put new caulking in. thanks

grcing2, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
You may have the type that just screws into the piping. Look into the drain and see if there is a "cross" made of metal going across the drain. They make a tool for unscrewing this type drain. You shouldn't need to unscrew it all the way. Just enough to be able to push a ring of Plumbers putty under the flange in the shower and then tighten it back down. Good luck.
You can also use silicone caulk but don't over-do it and get sloppy. It's a pain to remove too much extra.
